What the Solomon paradox is and how it’s secretly sabotaging you

The Solomon paradox is that you’re much worse at advising yourself than you are at advising other people.

Take dating as an example.

When your friend asks you about their dating life, you’re great at giving objective, reasonable advice.

Before they go on the first date, your friend is going NUTS.

They worry about everything:

“Should I wear jeans? What should I talk about? What if they don’t like me?”

Meanwhile, you’re as relaxed as Gandalf, and tell them:

“You’re overcomplicating it. Just be yourself”

On the other hand…

if you are the one who’s about to go on a date, the situation is the opposite.

You spend 2 hours choosing your outfit.

1 hour fixing your hair.

And 30 minutes brushing your teeth to clean your mouth of every single molecule of that Hot Garlic Shawarma Sauce you had for lunch.

You worry about even the smallest details, even though your friends tell you that you’re gonna be fine.

It’s the same in business - you’re overcomplicating your own situation.

You’re great at helping your business friends…

…but when it comes to your own business, your ability to think logically and clearly worsens.

But what if there was a way to trick our brains and tap into that wisdom for ourselves?

Enter GandalfGPT.

SUMMARY: The Solomon paradox

Named after the biblical King Solomon, who was known for his wisdom but made some not-so-wise personal decisions, this paradox highlights our ability to think more logically and clearly about others' problems than our own.

GandalfGPT: How to bypass the Solomon paradox using ChatGPT (and never be stuck again)

There’s only 1 way to bypass the Solomon paradox:

Detaching yourself from your advice.

And we can do this with ChatGPT…

…by turning ChatGPT into ourselves, and then letting it ask us for advice.

So basically, you become your own guru.

How the prompt works:

  1. You give ChatGPT information about yourself

  2. ChatGPT asks you for advice

  3. You mentor ChatGPT with your own best advice

  4. ChatGPT asks follow-up questions until it has enough advice to create a “plan” for itself

  5. You can use the plan it creates and apply it to yourself

Here’s the prompt:

Act as an entrepreneur seeking mentorship advice.

For context,[INSERT CONTEXT]

Now, your goal as an entrepreneur is that you want to [GOAL]

Your task is to ask me, questions about how you should reach this goal.

I am your mentor and I will answer your questions and guide you to your goal.

Depending on what I ask and advise you to do, you should then write a plan out for yourself based on my advice.

How to fill out the GandalfGPT prompt [CONTEXT] placeholder:

The GandalfGPT prompt needs a LOT of context for it to work - because it needs to become a mini-version of you.

Tell it:

  • How much money you have

  • How much money you’re making

  • What you are selling

  • How many customers/clients you have

  • What you have done the past 6 months

  • What problems / limitations you’re facing

  • How much time you have to work

  • What your current life situation is

  • Etc

For examples, look in the linked Chat further below.

Here’s an example of how I mentored ChatGPT to create a plan for themselves:

(I created an imaginary example in this case to not give away intimate details, but you get the idea!)

Based on the plan that GandalfGPT gives you, you can now see new clarity on your situation and continue to build your business.
