Why You Need Lean Processes

A friend recently taught me a great analogy:

Growing your revenue is like building muscle in the gym.

First of all, you need to put in the work to make anything happen.

And secondly, you can choose between doing a clean bulk and a dirty bulk.

In case you’re unfamiliar with “bulking” - get off my newsletter.

Just joking.

Basically, bulking means eating surplus calories to make your body build muscle.

Now, there are two common ways to do this:

Bulking explained: Fitness edition

Clean bulk: You increase your muscle mass slower, but don’t amass much excess fat during the process.

Dirty bulk: You eat as many calories as you can, so you build muscle faster, but also get a lot of extra fat.

Now, because this is not the gAIner Solopreneur (sorry), but the AI Solopreneur, let me tell you how these principles translate to business:

Bulking explained: Business edition

Because just as gym-bros face the dilemma of clean vs dirty bulking…

…solopreneurs have to decide if they want to scale their business:

a) With a dirty bulk: You increase your revenue rapidly, but because you’re focused only on money-making activities, excess process inefficiencies build up.

b) With a clean bulk: You increase your revenue slowly but sustainably, because you spend time optimizing your processes along the way. You create almost no inefficiencies.

Why I won’t do another business dirty bulk

In this analogy, building the AI Solopreneur was a turbo bulk:

Going from 0 to $175k in course sales in 4 months may have looked sexy from the outside, but it also took a toll on me:

I worked harder than I’ve done in my life before, and I know this way of generating revenue isn’t sustainable.

My future focus will be on finding clean processes to build a lean business and cut down the excess processes I built during the first months.

The Arnold Automator on Anabolics prompt

To scratch my own itch, I created a new, more powerful version of the good ol’ Arnold Automator prompt.

This prompt analyses your processes and helps you simplify and automate them:

Describe step-by-step how to set up any automations you suggest. Explain IN DETAIL why your solutions save the one person business time. You may also suggest to remove individual steps in the process to streamline it, if that helps the user.I will describe one process I have in my one person business, and you will advise me on how I can streamline, systematise, and automate my process using automation and AI tools.
